"An Important Message from Mr Beaky" By Cassie Leatham
Meet Mr Beaky—a blue and white native bird with something important to say. Although he doesn't look like the stereotypical "green and yellow" Aussie bird, Mr Beaky is still proudly native to his Country. His story is a vibrant metaphor for the experience of Aboriginal people whose appearance may not match public expectations, but whose cultural identity runs deep.
In An Important Message from Mr Beaky, author and cultural educator Cassie Leatham speaks directly to children with warmth and clarity. Through the lens of Mr Beaky, children are encouraged to explore diversity, identity, and inclusion. This book is a gentle and empowering read that opens up conversations about what it truly means to belong.
Perfect for classrooms and homes alike, this is a book that supports pride in Aboriginal identity and promotes respect for difference, helping young readers understand that identity is about culture, not colour.
