"Aboriginal Perspectives and Sustainability" Cairns

Collaboration Event: Expanding Perspectives in Early Years Education

We invite you to a powerful and immersive collaboration event, designed to enhance your approach to early years education through two thought-provoking sessions.

This is an opportunity to learn from experts in the field and integrate fresh, meaningful practices into your curriculum.

In the first session, Jessica Staines, Director of Koori Curriculum, will guide us through "Aboriginal Perspectives in the Early Years Learning Framework." This transformative workshop offers valuable insights into embedding Aboriginal culture into early childhood education.

Jessica will demonstrate how to program and plan with authenticity using the 8ways of learning, develop cultural learning plans, and create reconciliation commitment statements. Together, we will explore how Aboriginal perspectives can enrich all aspects of the EYLF, from outcomes to practices.

In the second session, Bec Burch of Bush Kindy Australia will delve into "Sustainability and Nature Play in the Early Years Learning Framework." This hands-on session will explore the new Sustainability Principle in EYLF 2.0 and its connection to nature pedagogy.

Bec will offer strategies to foster sustainable practices in your setting, reflect on team sustainability skills, and provide insights into integrating place-based pedagogy into nature play.Join us in shaping a more inclusive and sustainable future for early childhood education!

What people are saying about Koori Curriculum

So Many Valuable Ideas

“Honestly there were so many valuable ideas shared by Jessica that I'm very keen to implement in my service. I'm going to look back over my notes with my team to see how we can implement some of these ideas.”

Lamisse Kazzi

How to Program Culturally and Appropriately for Children

“I really appreciate having been given a resource audit as this is something that is easy to implement and helpful to identify gaps within children’s spaces.

I also really liked insight into how to program culturally and appropriately for children in an individual way, as well as an achievable way. All of the suggestions are something that can be easily implemented in a big service that I’m in, with ease and no feelings of overwhelming.

Which means a great outcome for the children, families and educators in the service. Thank you!”

Emily Claringbold

It was an Amazing Workshop

“It was an amazing workshop. The biggest thing that stood out to me was integrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander resources that were authentic to the community and naturally included within experiences, rather than having implementation be a “theme” e.g. NAIDOC week etc.

I also loved the comment about anaphylaxis question on an intake form with a clear picture of next steps, whereas ticking a box off for background and culture didn’t have clear explanation as to why info was being gathered.”

Engaging Strategies & Ideas

"I just wanted to say thanks so much for the training session. I'd been hoping to come along to in-person training with you for a while and I'm so glad I finally did it. It was so worthwhile. It was a really helpful day that challenged my thinking personally and professionally. I'm really looking forward to putting things into practice and continuing learning."
