Every morning Uncle Tobias goes fishing. Sometimes, two little boys join him. Together they journey across their community — from the beach to the bridge to the mangroves — meeting Auntie Ruby, Old Isaac, and others. As they travel, Uncle Tobias shares stories of his ancestors and traditional ways of living.
You and Me: Our Place is a gentle, thoughtful picture book about connection to place and people. While it explores cultural differences between old and new, it focuses more on the commonalities that unite us — the shared experiences that form community.
This story is a valuable resource for introducing children to respectful cultural coexistence, place-based storytelling, and the importance of listening to Elders.
