"Yellow Dog" By Lyndall Stavrou, Jenny Taylor (Illustrator)
Yellow Dog is a gentle and moving story about a homeless pup who finds a new life when he is taken in by a family in an Indigenous community. Inspired by true events, this story explores themes of belonging, empathy, and resilience through the eyes of both the dog and the people who care for him.
With expressive illustrations by Jenny Taylor, the book brings the remote Australian setting to life, portraying the landscape and lifestyle with warmth and affection. The simple narrative and emotional tone make it an ideal read for young readers and a valuable addition to classroom discussions about community and compassion.
While the creators are non-Indigenous, the story honours the spirit of care and community found in many First Nations settings and has been especially well received by Aboriginal children.
