Testimonials

"We took inspiration from the Koori Curriculum mascots!

We introduced the plush toy to the team and asked each room to come up with a name suggestion. These were displayed in the hallway and families were asked to support their child/ren to vote for their preferred name. Last week, the votes were counted and our platypus came to be named Yindi. This offered us a chance to share the Indigenous origins of the name, as well as Yothu Yindi’s fantastic song “Treaty” with our children and families. Yindi has visited each room this week to share in their NAIDOC celebrations. In future, she will visit each room for a week at a time to allow for continuity of learning and depth in discussion. The book, which follows Yindi around, is a place to collate all the amazing Indigenous experiences, ideas and learning prompted by our new centre mascot. We are excited to see what Indigenous provocations our centre mascot will bring in the future."
