"For Country, for Nation: An illustrated history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Military Service" by Lachlan Grant & Michael Bell
For Country, for Nation offers a powerful illustrated history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander military service. With a long-standing tradition of fighting for Country, First Nations peoples have served with honour and distinction in the Australian Defence Force - this book traces their contributions from pre-Federation through to contemporary operations.
Richly illustrated with more than 230 images, this important publication features artworks, photographs, and objects from the Australian War Memorial’s collection, alongside the voices of Indigenous men and women. It sheds light on their experiences of war and examines the complex reasons many volunteered, despite facing systemic discrimination at home.
***Warning: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander readers are advised that this publication contains images and names of deceased persons.
