Pam Galeano Collection

Pam was born in Atherton, North Queensland, and completed her secondary education at boarding school in the small, remote town of Herberton. Though her heart was set on acting, Pam chose the most adventurous career a “nice” girl could pursue at the time – teaching. She had always loved helping her classmates in primary school, and with teacher training colleges only available in Brisbane, her journey into education began.

Pam found great joy in working with younger students, especially through her favourite subjects – reading, writing, art and drama. A teaching transfer took her to Tully on the beautiful Cassowary Coast, where she met her future husband Joe Galeano – a cane farmer, conservationist and bulldozer driver. The couple raised two children and now enjoy time with their grandchildren.

Reading picture books with her own children, and in the classroom, inspired Pam’s passion for storytelling. After retiring early, she turned her attention to writing her own stories. Drawing from Joe’s deep knowledge of the local environment and his captivating real-life encounters with native animals, Pam has published five picture books featuring the creatures of the Cassowary Coast – blending conservation with creativity.
