About the author (2021)

Warna Manda Baby Earth Walk was written and illustrated by Wirangu woman, Susan Betts. The story has special meaning for Susan, a renowned Indigenous artist from Streaky Bay in South Australia.Sharing connection to country, Susan's story looks to inspire future generations. "It is about that connection to the earth and being able to share that connection," Susan said. "I hope that it inspires everyone, especially children, because that's who I wrote it for, to feel and awaken that sense of connection to Mother Earth."Through the pages, Susan painted an eagle and seven sisters star, which follows Allurru on her journey. The Waldya and Galga represent our ancestors above and below who always watch over us.

Mandy Foot's career began designing and illustrating for the Adelaide Zoo Education Service. After drawing just about every animal in the kingdom, Mandy wanted to share more of the wonderful creatures she created leadingher into the world of children's books. The pair spent time "learning about why this book was so important and how connected Susan was with animals and the earth"."The opportunity to work with Susan was extraordinary," Mandy said. "The connection was instant. Two artists from different cultures coming together with the same passion for Mother Earth and our animal kingdom. Our intensive one week spent together painting and drawing to create the finished artwork, I will never forget".
