Supporting Aboriginal educators requires more than welcoming them into a workplace, it means creating an environment where they feel culturally safe, professionally valued and genuinely supported to thrive.
This webinar explores what cultural safety looks and feels like in everyday workplace practice, including how leaders and teams can recognise and address racism, unconscious bias, tokenism and culturally unsafe behaviours. A key focus will be understanding and reducing cultural load. Aboriginal educators should not be expected to represent all Aboriginal people, educate their colleagues, lead every cultural initiative or carry sole responsibility for embedding Aboriginal perspectives.
Participants will consider how workplaces can support the professional growth, aspirations and leadership pathways of Aboriginal educators without defining them solely through their cultural identity. The session will also explore the importance of meaningful, culturally responsive mentoring that builds trust, recognises existing strengths and supports each educator’s individual goals.
