About Kylie Dunstan

Kylie Dunstan is an Australian author and illustrator born in 1972 in Broken Hill, New South Wales. She completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts in Adelaide and worked in commercial art galleries before taking a twelve-month position as an Arts Officer in Gunbalanya (Oenpelli), Arnhem Land. During this time, she accompanied local women on bush trips to collect pandanus and dyes for weaving — experiences that inspired Collecting Colour.

After her time in Arnhem Land, Kylie travelled overseas and later settled in Melbourne, working for Museums Australia. In 2004, she was selected for an ASA mentorship with author Sally Rippin, which helped bring Collecting Colour to life. She relocated to Adelaide with her partner and two children in 2005.
