These First Nation dolls are hand-painted by Jade McDonald, a Wiradjuri artist living on the NSW Central Coast. Jade carefully sources ethical Aboriginal textiles to craft the doll clothes, ensuring each piece is made with respect and integrity.

Name: Wayimaa [wa-yi-maa]

Meaning: This beautiful First Nations doll has been named after one of Australia’s most well-known and iconic birds, the Pink Cockatoo.

Wayimaa is the Wiradjuri word for the Pink Cockatoo. A small pink-and-white parrot. Its head, neck and underparts are pale to deep pink, while the upperparts are white.

Bird Life Australia officially renamed Major Mitchell's cockatoo back to Pink Cockatoo in 2023, due to Mitchell's involvement in the massacre of Aboriginal people at Mount Dispersion.

My name is Jade McDonald. I’m a proud Wiradjuri woman, a wife, and a mother to three amazing children: a daughter and identical twin boys. We live in the beautiful town of Long Jetty on the Central Coast of NSW.

I find joy in creating one-of-a-kind pieces in my sewing haven, where I draw inspiration from my surroundings and work with vibrant, beautiful colors. Each creation reflects my love for art and culture, blending tradition with contemporary flair.
