“Warrikirti Christmas Bilby” By Lyndall Stavrou, Jeni Bullock (Illustrator)
Warrikirti Christmas Bilby is a heartwarming children's story set in the Australian Outback.
When Santa enlists the help of Warrikirti, a bilby, to deliver Christmas presents to children in a remote bush community, the adventure begins. Guided by flying kangaroos, Warrikirti encounters local people and dingoes who are actively involved in controlling feral cats—a significant threat to bilbies in the wild.
This narrative weaves together themes of Indigenous culture and environmental conservation. The inclusion of a few words from the Warumungu language enriches the cultural tapestry of the story, offering young readers a glimpse into the linguistic heritage of the region.
