"Clever Crow" By Nina Lawrence, Bronwyn Bancroft (Illustrator)
Clever Crow is an endearing and witty story that follows the exploits of a hungry, cunning crow with a sharp eye and an even sharper appetite. As he searches the bush for something to eat, his quest leads him to a group of people preparing for ceremony — and a delicious turtle egg he just can’t resist.
But stealing the egg isn’t as easy as he expects. Crow must be more clever than he’s ever been before if he wants to succeed!
Written by Nina Lawrence, a Djambarrpuyŋu woman, and illustrated by the renowned Bronwyn Bancroft, Clever Crow seamlessly weaves English with Djambarrpuyŋu, a Yolŋu language from North East Arnhem Land. The story offers cultural richness and playful storytelling, while Bancroft’s distinctive visual style brings vibrancy and movement to every page.
A delightful and important addition to any children’s book collection that celebrates Aboriginal language, culture and humour.
