Nestled in the quiet streets of Sydneys Northern Beaches lies one of Early Childhoods best kept secrets, Explore & Develop Narraweena. The Koori Curriculum arrived to deliver an inservice on Embedding Aboriginal Perspectives into Early Childhood Curriculums and were completely taken a back by this services beautiful outdoor learning environment.
Below: the centre is engulfed by a forest of lomandra. Educators are planning to use it in fibre art experiences with the children.
We will also begin researching how to harvest the flower in the centre of the plant and use it to make bush flour.
Above: children and educators draw inspiration from their nature play ground. Scattered throughout the land scape are various pop up shelters and hiding places.
Above: Objects from nature are immersed indoors as well creating a natural symbiosis between the two learning environments.
Invitations for exploration are regularly presented to children such as the one above to foster their connection to land, country and place.
