Koori Curriculum's Free 2025 Pollinator Companion

Between the 8th to the 16th of November is Australian Pollinator Week. 

This is our chance to come together to honor our remarkable insect pollinators, whose work is so vital to our ecosystems. It’s more than just a week—it's a collaborative effort where communities, businesses, and organizations unite to raise awareness and lend support to these tiny, yet mighty, warriors of nature.

To support this wonderful event, we at Koori Curriculum have created a companion, designed to enhance the pollinator week experience by incorporating Aboriginal perspectives and knowledge about native pollinators.

By participating in pollinator week and using the Koori Curriculum Pollinator Week Companion, students will:

• Become citizen scientists, contributing valuable data to professional research
• Develop scientific skills and knowledge about pollinator life cycles, habitats, and adaptations
• Learn about the cultural significance of various pollinator species to Aboriginal peoples
• Explore Aboriginal languages and names for local pollinator species

The Koori Curriculum Pollinator Week Companion provides educators with culturally appropriate activities and information to enrich the pollinator experience. This resource helps bridge Western scientific approaches with traditional Aboriginal knowledge, offering a holistic learning experience for all students.

By combining pollinator week with the Koori Curriculum Bird Count Companion, educators can create a meaningful, cross-cultural learning opportunity that celebrates both scientific inquiry and Aboriginal cultural heritage.
