Since starting the Koori Curriculum we have met thousands of educators from all over Australia who are enthusiastically embedding Aboriginal perspectives in their program and practice. Whilst these educators celebrate the inclusion of first nations peoples in their curricula the struggle is real.

There is a gamut of challenges that educators face and battle to overcome on their quest to privilege Indigenous culture and people in their setting. To support educators along on their journey the Koori Curriculum has listed our Top 30 Tips and turned them into a short course for early childhood educators.

This short course will advise and touch on the following topics:

  • Acknowledgment of Country
  • Recruitment
  • Procurement
  • Protocols
  • Connecting with Community
  • Reconciliation Action Plans
  • Celebrations and Significant Dates
  • Working with Families
  • Policies
  • Embedding Aboriginal Perspectives in Early Childhood Curriculums

Our Top 30 Tips are short snippets of information that aim to guide practice and develop educators' cultural capacity and confidence.

Testimonials:

" I stumbled across your 30 Tips in 30 Days series; I think through a Facebook sponsored type post but found it amazing! And so informative, very easy to read and beautifully put together."

Josie Quinlan

"I recently took part in Jessica Staines '30 tips for 30 days' and 'Top questions answered online' courses. Both of these have been tremendously valuable to me as a non-Indigenous person wanting to reflect Indigenous culture in early childhood programs. There is a lot of confusing information out there but Jessica's courses helped me to see things directly from an Indigenous perspective and supported my efforts to embed culturally appropriate practices. I would highly recommend these courses!"

Lesley Davidson

"I just wanted to give you a huge shout out. I purchased your online course 30 tips in 30 days and have just finished. Loved it! Right from the start I felt that each step was achievable and I have come away with plan of what I can do next. It has led to wonderful conversations with colleagues reflecting on what we have done, and how we can continue to do better. Learning, unlearning and relearning. Looking forward to putting all 30 tips into practice at our centre!"

Sam Vale
Educational Leader at Windsor Community Children’s Centre.

"I recently purchased Top 30 Tips in 30 Days from Koori Curriculum and loved it! I chose Top 30 Tips in 30 Days because I had just finished my ECE diploma and wanted a better idea as to how to integrate indigenous perspectives/culture into my practice. It was incredibly insightful and I now feel like I have a fantastic foundation to begin my career with. I can’t wait  to dive into more of the Koori curriculum webinars and resources."

Tiffany Stute

"Only just over half way through but so enjoying all the learning I’m doing!

As a teacher of 30+ years it’s exciting to be on a renewed learning journey inspired by a vibrant young teacher who is doing so much to help others in their understanding and practice with such practical advice."

Test Brooks

"I can not believe we were flying the flag and a man knocked in our door to complain he said we need 1 flag he went on and on. My administration assistant said he had been 3 times before.  I am proud of myself I explained why we flew the flag. I could do this thanks to your tips.  I just wanted to share this with you. Thankyou"

Sandy, Hastings Child Care  And Community Kinder.

"I have just completed ( albeit a bit slow) the 30 tips to embedding Aboriginal Perspectives. I found the information given easy to understand, the links to useful books a great resource and the understanding that I am doing a good job BUT I can set a higher standard and do more research and do more to educate the children and families in my Bayside community kindergarten. Thank you for the tips I would highly recommend."

Shauna

"A few of the educators at my service (including myself) are completing this. I have learnt so much from them, so thank you for developing them."

Joy Dawson

"I am still working through mine. It has given me a great understanding and focus. Highly recommend this. Thank you so much x"

Caroline Hamilton

Lesley Redden

"The 30 tips in 30 days were wonderful, bite size, encouraging, creative and very helpful thoughts for any service seeking to embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives into curriculum and to proceed with a RAP. I encourage (purchasing) these, they only take a few moments of your day and offer further video segments should you wish to delve deeper. It's snapshot learning that will go far in building educators confidence, knowledge and build a sense of true purpose as to why we need to work together in this way as educators."

Fiona Darroch

"I love your idea of writing down your own life experience and reflecting on them."

Barbara Hamilton
